Registrations for workshops after the mid semester break will open in April
Writing Workshops
The Writing Skills Program delivers a series of workshops on academic writing designed to complement the Learning Skills Workshops and take you further into the processes and strategies appropriate for success in writing university assignments.
There are two sets of workshops:
- a set of four workshops (each with specific area of study choice) on aspects of assignment structure and design
- a set of two on principles and strategies to do with grammar and expression appropriate for academic writing
We have designed the workshop to operate sequentially. Many of you will thus find it useful to attend all of the workshops in sequence. But you are welcome to choose to attend one or more as they seem relevant to your needs.
In particular with regards Workshop Set 1 (assignment structure and design), you should be aware that all successful academic and professional writing has three stages:
- the pre-writing stage - research and planning
- the writing stage - the actual drafting, and often re-drafting
- the post writing stage - editing, polishing, proof reading

NEW Saturday Session
Writing at University
This workshop presents an overview of academic writing issues that are particularly relevant to commencing students. It will introduce some of the topics that are more fully explored in the above workshops.
No bookings are required for this session. Just drop in.
| Saturday 10 March | 10am - 12pm | PRICE Theatre (W5A) |
What to expect:
- The Writing Skills Workshops will begin in teaching week 3 of semester and go through to week 7 (the week following the semester break)
- Each workshop runs for around 2 hours, with a maximum of 30 participants.
- They will run as interactive seminars
- No extra work will be assigned.
- It's a great idea to bring your actual assignment tasks along with you if you know them already. This gives us "real data" to work with when we discuss the various strategies. But note that although we will discuss them and their demands on you, we will not specifically help you to write them!
